Showcasing the songs and sounds of Jeni Grouws, Brianna Lane, and Sara Routh, “She Writes!” brings together three of the region’s most powerful and inspiring singer / songwriters in one of Decorah’s favorite venues, the courtyard of the ArtHaus Studio at 516 West Water Street on the evening of Friday, August 12 from 7-10pm. The concert is sponsored by RocketDog Books, the Winneshiek Music Festival and Arrowhead Valley. A $5-10 donation is suggested for admission to the outdoor evening performance with all proceeds benefiting ArtHaus' Youth Scholarship Fund.
The following day on Saturday, August 13, area women and girls of all ages are invited to join Grouws, Lane and Routh for ‘Life at the Mic’ from 10am to 2pm. This master class is designed to explore performance and mic skills while engaging participants in conversation about pursuing a career in music.
The workshop will be consist of 3 parts. From 10-noon, Grouws, Lane and Routh will share professional tips and techniques for honing performance skills at the mic; participants can sign up for one of 8 first-come, first-serve critique spots in which they’ll have the opportunity to take the stage and receive constructive feedback for all to learn from. This will be followed by a catered lunch provided by Trout River Catering.
At 12:45, participants will reconvene for conversation with Grouws, Lane and Routh, to explore the creative journey of a life in music and lessons learned as a female performers. The workshop is set to conclude by 2pm.
There is a $20 fee to attend the workshop which includes a buffet style lunch with non-dairy, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Participants must register in advance via ArtHaus' online registration system or call 563-382-5440 to reserve a spot.
