There'll Be Dancing in the Streets at Elkader's St. Patrick's Day Celebration

ELKADER-- I step outside and am delighted to be bathed in a sea of green lining up on Main Street. People from all over are setting up their chairs and getting ready for the big parade. I look around for my friends and laugh as I see the little kids with their faces painted with four-leaf clovers on their cheeks. I hear the bagpipe music playing over the speakers and the announcer getting ready for the parade to begin. As I settle in next to my friends to watch the parade, I see the American flag being presented by the Legion and I rise to honor the flag.  After the flag passes, the rest of the parade line advances. Children rush to snatch up as much candy as possible before it is gone and are elated to see their bags fill up with candy. Green beads are passed out to the crowd by those who are walking in the parade. The rumbling of the fire trucks coaxes kids to return to the safety of their parents as the parade comes to an end.

Join us in celebrating Elkader’s 23rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration March 17, 2016 in downtown Elkader. Before the parade, children may enjoy St. Patrick’s Day activities at the Elkader Public Library starting at 4 pm. The parade will begin at 5:15 pm on Main Street. Following the parade, more fun for the kids can be found at Johnson’s Reception Hall where Father Paul Peters will have music that includes a sing-along and dancing. For more information regarding the celebration, please call (563)-245-2122.

Don’t forget to check out our very own piece of Ireland founded right here in Elkader. Fennelly’s Irish Pub is a great place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the whole family. They have a wonderful menu for the kids as well as the adults featuring both American and Irish foods that range from burgers and fries to Irish stew and Shepherds Pie.  Any other questions about Fennelly’s Irish pub? Please call (563)-245-3663.
