Top 5 Reasons Lansing's WinterFest is a Sure Hit

Off in the corner of Northeast Iowa just a few miles south of the Minnesota border, Lansing is getting ready to present their second annual WinterFest celebration.

Fire up the station wagon and load up the kids as registration starts at 9:00 am sharp.

Here are Top Five Reasons you should be in downtown Lansing all-day Saturday, February 20th for WinterFest.

5. ICE CARVING THAT IS OUTTA THIS WORLD

Last year's inaugural WinterFest was a fine distraction from those mid-winter blues. The big hit was the Ice Carving demonstrations performed by Chain Reaction Carvings, as they spent eight hours carving such masterpieces as:

  • The S.S. Lansing steamship
  • A perfect carved Eagle in Flight
  • ABass jumping out of the Water

Chain Reaction Carvings is back this year, ready to fire up the chainsaws and ice picks! Don't miss it!

4. GUIDED HIKE UP MT. HOSMER: LANSING'S BEST KEPT SECRET

Join in on the fun of a guided hike of the trails up and over Mt. Hosmer. Don't forget to take a break fireside when you get to the top, as hikers will be treated to hot dogs and s'mores.

Look and listen along the way as you enjoy walking the same trails that early settlers trekked.

3. LOCAL PRIDE AT STAKE DURING THE HOTLY CONTESTED 'CHILI COOK-OFF COMPETITION'

Stop on down to taste all the delectable entries of Lansing's WinterFest Chili Cook-Off. Whether it's a sampling of extra-spicy chili, Texas chili or the ever-surprising Cowboy chili, this challenge grows bigger every year.

2. CRAFT & VENDOR SHOW

Believe it or not, this portion of WinterFest was very popular last year, featuring everything from Sadie's Cupcakes to wine sampling.

This year's vendor spots were sold out in less than two weeks all the way back in November.

Make it part of your WinterFest and see what all the buzz is about.

1. NEW THIS YEAR, AND TOPPING THE LIST, ARE LANSING'S 'HORSE-DRAWN SLEIGH RIDES'

Step up in line for the jewel of this year's WinterFest, as you travel near the frozen Mississippi Riverfront with scenic bluffs and the iconic Blackhawk Bridge as your backdrop.

Take a moment to enjoy Lansing from the best vantage point, that being the outdoor view.

(WinterFest registration starts at 9:00 am in TJ's Banquet Hall, just east of the Lansing Post Office).

Also back by popular demand will be Turkey Bowling, Snowshoeing, Children's indoor activities, a Hot Wheels Raceway, multiple stations for Hot Chocolate and much more.
