5.) Keep the Kids Busy!:
It's cold up yonder! Keep the kiddos (and yourself) from bouncing off the walls when you attend Vesterheim's Gingerbread Fair, which runs through January 2nd. Vesterheim has invited local folks of all ages to show off their creations in this lovely annual event. Gingerbread creations have had a long tradition in Scandinavia and Europe. The tradition continues to the present day, both in the United States and in Norway. And on Tuesday, December 20th, don't miss the next Barnetimen (Children’s Hour). Tuesday's Christmas-themed event is one where kids will spend the hour (from 10-11 a.m.) exploring Norwegian Christmas traditions, making a holiday gift to give or keep, and tasting some traditional treats. The event will be led by Vesterheim Youth Educator Jennifer Kovarik and ArtHaus Directors Jenni and Eric Petersen-Brant. It is completely free and open to the public. No registration is required but folks are encouraged to RSVP on Facebook.
And After All. A Little Thinking Ahead Never Hurt:
If your clan gets a taste of cabin fever over the holidays, jump in the car and pop over to Vesterheim. While the museum is closed Christmas and New Year's Days, it's otherwise open daily from 10-4 p.m. Stretch your legs, take in some beauty, and be with the people you love. Isn't that what it's all about anyway? May your holiday season be filled with love, light, and a chance to recharge.
