Antique Treasures Await You at Heaven's Hill

Summer weekends are full of fun in the sun, traveling, and exploring hidden gems in the area. One of these hidden gems lies just north of Guttenberg in Clayton County; Heaven’s Hill Antiques and More is every flea market and antique lover’s dream. Every room in this shop is full of antiques and “picked” goods that owner Debbra Hinzman has acquired over the course of 25 years. Being an avid antique lover myself, this shop was at the top of my list of hidden gems to check out.

When I pulled into the driveway, the first thing that caught my eye was the massive amount of antique goodies could be seen under and around the awning. From street signs, to lawn chairs, to a metal gate, there was a huge mass of picked goodies just outside of the building! Now I really couldn’t wait to get inside. As I leafed through the items, Debbra came to me and told me where she was able to find all of her items. Each item had a story, and I could’ve listened to her talk all day about her favorite picking moments.

As I meandered inside, I was suddenly surrounded by glassware and ceramics, all with different patterns and colors created by different makers. While looking through the delicate pieces, I remembered what it was like to gaze into my grandmother’s china cabinet and stare in wonder at the pieces inside. Much like how Debbra told stories of how she acquired her items, my grandma would tell me where she got the pieces in her china cabinet, whether they were gifts or pieces handed down by her mother or grandmother. Near the glassware was a collection of vintage perfumes, some of which still had a hint of fragrance within. I couldn’t resist the temptation; I opened a blue glass bottle and wafted the floral, fresh scent of the perfume toward my face. It was a unique experience, being able to smell a fragrance so well preserved over generations. It was one thing I loved about shopping for antiques; being able to discover something from the past, sometimes with the contents still preserved.

I could’ve spent a week in the small shop, yet unfortunately I had to leave after about an hour of discovering the hidden treasures. I found my way out of the building and waved goodbye to Debbra before I pulled out of their driveway. Heaven’s Hill was a hidden gem of antique treasures, and was just what I needed to get my fill of “antiquing” for the afternoon.
