On Thursday, June 30, at 7 p.m., author Linda Jenkin Costanzo will be at the River Park Place in Guttenberg, IA for a book signing of Our Sons, Our Heroes: Memories Shared by America’s Gold Star Mothers from the Vietnam War.
She will also be doing another book signing on Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the Corner Shoppe and Coffee House in Garnavillo, IA.
Imagine it being the 1960s. Your son goes off to valiantly serve his country in the Vietnam War. One morning there is a knock on the door and there are two men in uniform standing there with solemn faces.
The book recounts the stories and feelings of 16 mothers who had to experience that terrible scenario. Follow the journey through Linda Jenkin Costanzo’s writing as she went into the homes of these women approximately 50 years after the war to hear their stories and to make sure their sons’ sacrifices would never be forgotten. These 16 mothers, and all other family members who have experienced loss from war, have felt a wide range of emotions, including anger and pride, due to their sons’ sacrifices and strength.
As a retired high school teacher, Linda felt inspired to write in order to raise awareness for those who served this great country and made tremendous sacrifices. As a mother, herself, of twin boys, the stories hit home as she realized that she could be in a situation similar to the mothers in her book.
Books will be available for purchase at the book signings.
The Moving Wall and this book signing are both a once in a lifetime event, and Clayton County is able to provide both at the same time.
