As the changing of the seasons from summer to autumn occurs in Northeast Iowa, the air is more crisp, the leaves transitioning from bright greens to rich shades of red and orange, and Ewalu in Strawberry Point holds its annual Fall Festival and Quilt Auction.
For 27 years, people have been visiting the beautiful Ewalu Stone Center and Camp for this fundraising event. Gaze at the fall foliage when you take a hayride tour around the grounds before enjoying a free-will donation lunch at noon. Unique, gorgeous quilts of all sizes and color schemes hang for bidders to admire. Take a walk among the butterflies and other wildlife on the trails and in the gardens of Ewalu. Show your support by bidding on a quilt or craft or make a purchase at the country store.
Saturday, September 19th, 2015 marks the 28th year of this annual tradition and the addition of new activities to the festivities! This year wood crafts will be available for auction alongside the traditional quilts and wall-hangs. “September Embers” is the name of the brand new grilling contest! Enter to show your grilling prowess to the festival guests and judges or taste what participants have cooking. Saturday morning, a 5k fun run/walk dubbed “A Pace Apart” will be held for people wanting to get a jump-start on the day’s activities.
