River Hills School is a special place of learning that serves children between ages 3 and 21. The teachers in the school have particular expertise in working with students with developmental disabilities. The school has been serving special students since 1969.
Hartman Reserve Nature Center is part of Black Hawk County. The location is part of the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area. The reserve is completely paved with wood and offers best in-state opportunity for wildlife observation and bird watching. The entire property is wheel-chair accessible. Other than the wooden pavement, there are other natural trails available, that offer hiking opportunities.
What can you expect from the event
River Hills School will host the annual Northeast Iowa Paddle Fest for the second time. The main idea behind the Paddle Fest is to educate people about the paddling opportunities available in the state. The event also provides an opportunity to generate awareness about developmental disabilities in children.
Gene Allen Ott, owner of Pack Sack Outfitters, will provide the keynote speech to start the event. There will be numerous sessions conducted in parallel. Some of the sessions include:
• How to Kayak in pool,
• Planning for Canoe,
• Do-it-yourself items, and
• Details about Paddlers havens around the county.
Tickets: Tickets can be purchased in advance, and they cost $15 for adults and $5 for children. Walk-ins are welcome and the ticket price at the door is $20. Lunch will be provided for guests who have purchased the tickets in advance.
