Rice Lake State Park is a perfect place for families and a great outdoor place to enjoy winter and have fun with friends and loved ones. The park boasts close to fifteen acres, with great outdoors areas for a winter activities as well as warm weather classics like picnics, weddings, or any group event. The park has a beautiful stone shelter that can be reserved online.

Rice Lake has many activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Inside the park, visitors can engage in bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, and fishing. There are a large variety of fish species in the lake, including bass and bullheads. In addition, there are various kinds of bird species that make their home here. Pelicans, for example, are found in abundance during their migration season.

While no camping is technically allowed at the park, there are many nearby places to throw up your tent. Some of the nearby towns to stay include  Joice, Leland, Forest City and Scarville. Wildlife viewing is another primary activity at the park. The thick forests offer a unique collection of wildlife.

What can you expect from the upcoming snowshoeing event:

Snowshoeing Lake Mills is a fantastic Northeast Iowa way to enjoy winter while it lasts. You can explore the beautiful snowy outdoors while warming up your muscles and getting some much needed activity. Snowshoeing is terrific exercise and a fun group activity. With a dedicated guide, this experience can be even more fun.

NIACC Community Education Program is enabling awareness about snowshoeing (history, benefits and basics) at Rice Lake State Park. Join the visitor group and head out for a snowshoe hike with a knowledgeable guide. See the hidden side of nature. No prior experience is necessary. (Kids aged between 7 and 12 need to be accompanied by a guardian.)
