Today as I sit here and think back, as a 44 year old woman who still misses the long hot summers in Decorah, Iowa. I still feel connected to the city and wish I could uproot my entire existence to find the perfect job, house, school, and company to move back. I live on my husband's century farm, close to Cedar Rapids Iowa. My father was born and raised in Decorah and my mother was born and raised north of Decorah toward Canton, Minnesota. As a family we have always treasured the value of Decorah and what it has to offer. Today, many of my family members still live and work there.
I regret the fact that I never allowed myself to visit the Vesterheim Museum, attend Nordic Fest, explore all that Luther College has to offer, watch local racing, participate in county fair, camp, learn to trout fish, watch the Eagles, enjoy the new and improved bike trails, research the history, or watch all of the sporting events (and these are just to name a few of the things that this great place has to offer).
I know that as a child, spending so much time in Northeast Iowa shaped and molded me to become who I am today. Even since my last visit so many years ago, Decorah as a community held strong and has grown immensly. So many new Bed and Breakfasts, restaurants, housing, jobs, retail, and the list goes on and on.
Whether you want to raise a family or retire, you will never go wrong with Decorah. Searching online turns up so many opportunities and explanations as to what this great city has to offer.
