Come by Boat or Road to Stay at the Claytonian

Come by boat or road, leave your cares at home,” is the motto of Claytonian Inn Bed and Breakfast. With two ways of arriving, this bed and breakfast is something special. It's located on the banks of the Mississippi River and just off the Great River Road in Clayton, Iowa.

Clayton, Iowa is a picturesque village surrounded by colorful tree-lined bluffs and breathtaking views. This small rural community always offers a warm welcome to its visitors and guests. The historic village is known as a fisherman’s paradise.

When visiting here, you have to see the historic Clayton Independent School. The school was built in 1860 and used for 103 consecutive years. At the turn-of-the-century, Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church was built. On Sundays, church services are still held today. Within walking distance, you can dine at either of Clayton’s two restaurants. While dining, guests can savor the excellent food with awesome views overlooking the Mississippi River.

We strongly encourage you to spend the night at the Claytonian Inn Bed and Breakfast. Don and Eileen Christensen, host and hostess, pride themselves on giving their guests a relaxing stay with the all the comforts of home. The Claytonian Inn has three suites with their own distinctive theme, entrance and private bath.

The Fin & Feathers (Efficiency Suite) is decorated with fish and birds of all varieties. Each room also comes with a small kitchen. The Jones Suite is named for a riverboat captain, decor' of an American Sea Captain. The Liers Suite is their most romantic suite. When you experience the sun setting and the moonlit sky with twinkling stars above, it is a glorious sight to see. Your day starts and closes with a view that is nothing short of breathtaking.

There are many area attractions for exploration including Pikes Peak State Park, Effigy Mounds National Monument, Spook Cave, Lock and Dam #10, and museums.
