A Christmas De-Lights holiday bazaar will be held in Guttenberg on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 4-7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 27, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. in the former Riverview Café, above the Dam Bar at 431 S. River Park Drive in Guttenberg. Vendors offering gifts and goodies range from Tupperware to Norwex, and crafters will be selling doll clothes, jewelry, purses, hats, soaps, solar lights and rain gauges.
“Everyone and anyone who wants unique gifts for the Christmas season, or who wants to support our local merchants and crafters should attend,” say organizers. The event is being put on by local arts council Umbrella Arts, who stepped up to the plate after former organizers Guttenberg Gallery and Creativity Center opted not to host the fundraiser this year.
“We think it is an added value to our community when shopping on the weekend after Thanksgiving,” said Karen Riser and Lori Wallace, Umbrella Arts members who have taken the lead on event planning. “The location puts the action right in the center of the downtown with the merchants who are open. We are, also, putting in a Saturday late afternoon time, 4-7 p.m., so that merchants who in the past could not attend are able to.”
Customers age 12 and older will be asked to pay a $1 entry fee to the bazaar, but in turn will receive a $1 coupon to be used at a local restaurant. Other activities planned for the day include face painting, music, and a jellybean jar guessing contest with cash prizes.
“The funds earned will go to Umbrella Arts, who in turn will use it for future arts-related projects next year, such as Creativity Center needs, River of Music needs, or as the matching grant funds for the RC&D public art project,” say organizers.
Santa will make an appearance on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 1-3 p.m. in the River Park Place courtyard on the 300 block of South River Park Drive. There is no cost to see Santa, but visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the food pantry.
