The Elkader Opera House players, serving all of Northeast Iowa, are bringing the community together through laughter once again with their hilarious comedy, Love They Neighbor, by Gary Ray Stapp.
Some of the most popular sitcoms on TV are often grounded in the small annoyances that turn into the inevitable fireworks when you put very different characters in close proximity. Love Thy Neighbor has that familiar sitcom style with a surprise plot resolution at the end that makes you re-think everything that came before.
Leona Crump (Joeann Tesar) is a garden loving woman who has the talent of knowing every little detail that goes on in her neighborhood. Of course, her recently retired couch potato husband (Clark Ott) is of no help to her as she attempts to rule the fate of her neighborhood. By keeping a close eye on the house for sale across the street and keeping tabs on the local realtor, she is confident her cul-de-sac's cosmos is under her tight control. When the new neighbors move in undetected, she is forced to take matters into her own hands.
Her sweet but not so bright neighbor Judy (Niki Berns) is there to offer Leona friendship and comfort while Judy's husband Paul (Kevin Lau) is always popping in to raid Leona's refrigerator. Add to these characters, the new neighbors, a gossiping door-to-door sales woman, the neighborhood paperboy, the average and tolerant postman, and the local authorities. The drama escalates and humor ensues.
Directed by Tom Chandler of Elkader and Jon Banse of Strawberry Point, Love Thy Neighbor gives you a greater appreciation for your own streetmates, as well as an admiration for finely constructed, light-hearted show such as this.
The show will be staged at the Elkader Opera House, Friday, March 28th through Saturday April 6th. Reservations can be made by calling (563) 873-2378 or popping by the Moser Family Pharmacy in Elkader. There are also tickets available at the door.
