Get Ready to Do the Northeast Iowa Artists' Tour!

It's time to start making plans to do the Northeast Iowa Artists' Studio Tour, set for October 12th through the 14th this Fall. This year's tour will feature 37 locations, open 10am-5pm daily, that showcase the work of 51 artists focused on behind-the-scenes access to their creative processes. It’s super fun, scenic, inspiring, and a unique chance to connect one-on-one with artists, learn about their art, and by work directly from the site of creation. Many of the locations are only open to the general public during this annual event that is what makes Iowa's first, largest, and longest running tour of artists' studios so unique.

Although Decorah, Iowa is the central hub community from which the Tour radiates 40 miles in any direction, you'll also find yourself traveling through scenic bluff country to explore the work and studios of photographers, painters, potters, basket weavers, quilters, metalsmiths, woodcarvers, fiber artists, kaleidoscope makers, sculptors, and more. Each artist’s studio space and techniques are as individual as the artist, and experiencing these first-hand is the foundation of the Tour. Among the artists juried into the Tour are a number of award-winning and nationally traveling fine artists.

Again this year in lead up to the tour, you can preview a sampling of the Tour artists’ work with an exhibition at ArtHaus in downtown Decorah. Opening with a special evening reception from 7 to 9pm on Thursday, September 6, The Preview exhibit will be on display through October 5 and is a unique opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Tour artists and plan your Tour route in advance. Works in the exhibition will be available for purchase in the gallery and online; ArtHaus hours can be found at their website. The Preview is sponsored by ri’aH Salon & Spa.

Information about Tour artists, images of their work plus handicap accessibility information, detailed maps, and lodging and dining information are available on the Tour’s website and in the brochure (available mid-June). Brochures are available at establishments throughout Winneshiek County or you can call to request one from the Winneshiek County CVB at 563-382-2023 or 1-800-463-4692 or via email at

The Northeast Iowa Artists' Studio Tour is a free event, appropriate for all ages, that is funded by fees paid by the artists as well as sponsorships from local businesses and advertising purchased by lodging and dining establishments.
