Every summer in the heart of downtown Monona in Clayton County, the town hosts their annual Hay Days Festival and Parade. This year the big day is Saturday June 17th, and I can’t wait for this year’s festivities! It’s a festival to celebrate the community of Monona and get everybody on their feet for festivities and entertainment throughout the day!
The event kicks off on Friday with a Taco Supper starting at 6pm, and a Glow Run/Walk sponsored by the Monona Fire Department starting at dusk. After the run, we can all switch out our running shoes for dancing shoes for the dance party afterward. Saturday, I have to start the day off with the delicious pancake breakfast that starts at 7am, before the big parade downtown at 11. To me, a plate of light and fluffy pancakes is a great way to start off a day full of fun and excitement!
The afternoon is filled with all the fun I could ever want at a festival, including bounce houses, carnival games, BINGO, and a classic car and truck competition! Local classic car cruisers from around the county will have their cool classics parked along the street, displaying the work they’ve put into bringing their classic beauty and getting into great conversation with other car lovers. It’s great to get a glimpse of what kind of vehicles used to roam the streets, and get to hear the car owners show their love for something they worked hard to preserve..
What I enjoy most of all about this festival is that there’s free live music entertainment in the evening! It’s not often that I go to an event that has free entertainment, and with this year’s entertainer for the night, Cody Hicks, it’s bound to be another great night of listening to good country music and dancing under the stars to round out a day full of excitement.
