Are you ready to spend a night in jail?
The old Clayton County Jail, a historic, limestone building, that was built in 1870 has been transformed by Julie Carlisle-Kane and Dr. Tim Kane.
The Elkader Jailhouse Inn has three different suites available year round. During summer and early fall months of May through October, the lodging offers a home-cooked breakfast meal and hot, fresh coffee to kick off the morning. From November through April, the inn operates as a bed and bath only.
The Harstad Suite, located on the 3rd floor, is a two-person suite. The bath has a two-person soaker tub, shower, and bidet.
The Botanical Suite, located on the 2nd floor, is also a two-person suite. The spacious bath has a two-person air tub, shower, all with a beautiful view of the garden and the Turkey Valley.
The Emma Big Bear Suite can accommodate 2-5 people. One room has a queen bed while another room has both a double and twin bed. The private bath is located across the hall.
The old cell block has been transformed into a comfy hangout that will make you feel at home. With a big screen TV, shuffleboard, and other board games and cards, the cell block is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a beverage of choice.
No one wants to have to spend the night in jail, unless it is at the Elkader Jailhouse Inn!
