HAWKEYE-- While most fans of the unique experience at K&K Gardens in Hawkeye, Iowa already know about the jaw-dropping scenery, visitors to the venue can now do a lot more than shop for plants and garden supplies.
This weekend, K&K hosts a Vendor Event on Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At just shy of twenty vendors, the event promises a wide array of homemade arts and crafts, pottery, original prints, pillows, cards, recycled barbed wire art, wine bottle chimes, fine art, jewelry, barn board items, and window crafts. There will also be wares available related to improving one's health and appearance.
Visitors to K&K Gardens this Saturday can, of course, stroll through the lush landscape of perennials and annuals, or relax under a pergola or gazebo while enjoying music by a live pianist. There will be pie, ice cream, and maidrite sandwiches available, along with wine tasting from 12 noon to 3 p.m., hosted by Empty Nest Winery.
Baked goods and refreshments will be available on-site.
K&K Gardens dubs itself a destination garden center, offering much more than just plants. Koi and gold fish flourish in the ponds, and both a two-story pergola and a French Piazza offer shaded areas in which to breathe in the aromas from the flora and fauna.
In addition to the event Saturday, K&K will showcase it's first-ever "Music In The Gardens Extravaganza," Friday, August 7, 2015.
The Bread & Butter String Band features contemporary, traditional, and original music via voice, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, bass, keyboard, and percussion. The band has performed at festivals, county fairs, fundraisers, celebrations, restaurants, coffee shops, bar & grilles, private events, weddings, and now K&K Gardens!
Locally, the group has performed at Nordic Fest, Laura Ingalls Days, and the Winneshiek County Fair. Regionally, they've opened for Pistol Whippin' Party Penguins, Last Revel (formerly the Bitterroot Band), Jake Manders Trio, Lehto & Wright, Tony Arata, Fred Knobloch, and Julie Meirick.
Attendees of the Music In The Gardens Extravaganza will be awestruck by the groups inspiring instrumentals, rock-solid vocals, and carefree presentation. This is an outdoor event, located in the French Piazza.
More specifically about the opening act, the Bread & Butter String Band's genre includes folk, folk-pop, folk-rock, bluegrass, country, indie, and old timey elements.
Light refreshments and delicious snacks are included. Wine, beer, and other adult beverages will be available onsite for a fee. Participants in the music event are required to register and make payment in advance. There will be a social time starting at 7 p.m., followed by music from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $25/person. There is limited seating, so register soon!
