Lovely Laura Ingalls Wilder Park and Museum in Burr Oak: Historic Family Fun

BURR OAK-- As many of you know, Laura Wilder, the iconic American children's book writer, hailed from Iowa. Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder was a famous children's author who wrote the Little House series. Her Little House works were based on her experiences as a child. Wilder's family moved very frequently. As a result, Laura forged an incredible amount of information about people and places, even at a young age. Her books replicate her life experiences in various parts of the country.

While Laura's family lived in Burr Oak for only one year, Laura’s books are chalk full of her experiences at the Masters Hotel there. Her family helped managed it. The Masters Hotel was later converted into a museum. Every year, during the fourth weekend in June, an event known as Laura-Days is celebrated there. The life experiences of Laura Ingalls and her family while in Burr Oak, are recounted during the event. Guests are entertained with a parade, live music, an auction, children's games, and rides. Each year, a new Little Laura and Young Almanzo are crowned during the event. The Laura-Days event is excellent family entertainment.

Laura's books are recognized worldwide and have been published in more than 35 languages. The Little House series is known for it's vivid description and riveting story line, and is a common among American families, particularly throughout the Midwest. Due to the immense popularity of these charming books, travelers frequent the museum in Burr Oak to learn more about Laura and her family.

The museum’s souvenir shop offers a vast collection of Ingalls memorabilia.
