The sky was painted with hues of purple and orange as the sun rose over the rolling hills. I sipped the smooth, dark coffee from my mug, allowing the deep aroma of the roast to fill my senses and fuel my body. It was a beautiful morning in Clayton County just outside the small Turkey River town of Elkader, and I had been sitting on the porch of Coyote Springs Cottage, enjoying a freshly brewed cup of coffee with a gorgeous view of the sunrise. I had a wonderful stay at the cottage, and would definitely have to stay here again.
The historic limestone building was well preserved and offered a nice amount of living space inside. The cottage was comfortably cozy and had a certain charm that made the experience special. The room had a large, beautiful bed with a white railing at the head and foot, and was decorated with elegant vintage furnishings. When I woke up that morning, I felt as though I was a part of a fairy tale rather than the rolling countryside of Iowa. It was a unique experience that’s hard to find in the city.
I finished my cup of coffee and walked back inside to get ready for a day of exploring Elkader’s historic downtown, and taking a stroll down the Turkey River walk. Elkader’s main street was full of unique shops full of surprises and treats, such as the General Store and More, which carried a wide variety of candies, delicious homemade soups, and locally produced foods. It was a great place to pick out meats and pasta to cook that night in the cottage’s kitchen. To go from the town's historic downtown back to the historic charm of the cottage was any history buff’s dream.
Throughout the day, the weather had been so nice I had to sit out in the backyard to watch the sun set and watch the wind rustle through the surrounding trees. As I sat out back there, I could feel the gentle breeze cool down the warm air the sun had created, allowing the crisp air of the nightfall to set in. It was a beautiful evening to end a gorgeous day, and the charm of the cottage made the evening special. Perfect for a night alone or a romantic getaway, Coyote Spring Cottages adds a special historic touch and charm to every stay. May the wind be always at your back.
