Munter's True Value Hardware: An Origin Story

"Munter’s True Value Hardware in Strawberry Point owes its success to great customer service and an excellent variety of quality products," says owner Tom Munter.

Tom and his wife, Karen Munter, relocated from Nebraska to Strawberry Point in 1971 where he first worked as vice president and loan officer at Union Bank & Trust, until 1983. Not only was his job the reason he relocated to Strawberry Point, but also due to the fact that he and his wife, both originally from rural communities, wanted to live and raise their children in a rural setting.

In 1983, Munter, took a job at New York Life as a field underwriter, selling insurance until 1988. All of Munter’s previous undertakings led up to his purchase of a hardware store.

Strawberry Point once had a hardware store, but it had been closed for about a year. Munter purchased the hardware store seeing it as a great prospect and opportunity to help the community grow.  The hardware store opened at its Strawberry Point location in November of 1988.  The store sells merchandise ranging from simple household cleaners, paint, tools and outdoor maintenance products to various kitchen appliances.

For the following 26 plus years, Munter’s True Value has served Starmont and surrounding areas with quality merchandise and a convenient location.
