Northeast Iowa Community College, along with area community businesses and organizations, had another successful annual Fall Fest, Thursday evening at the college. This was their ninth annual event, as a matter of fact. Each year gets bigger and bigger. The family fun night included a freewill donation meal, many inflatables rides, games and more for the kids. It was a big evening for the surrounding communities as families came from all over to enjoy the summerlike weather with an outdoor event.
The freewill donation meal was pork loin sandwich or hot dog, beans, chips, bars and beverage. Most activities during the event are free. The carnival games and the inflatable rides were available for only 25 cents each. The activities and meal was located in the center of campus with parking available nearby. By five o'clock the place was full of people of all ages.
Many young families came and with purchase of tickets the children played games, got their hair spray painted by the Cosmology class and or face painted. Shoes, shoes, shoes were everywhere as children took off their shoes to jump in the many inflatables. There were bouncy jumping ones, bungee runs, bungee slides and more. The dunking tank had a long line formed by the older kids, who enjoyed throwing the ball at the target and dunking whoever was the unlucky soul to be inside the dunking cage, though it was a warm summer eve and probably felt good. The wild children were rounded up into the cage of the Lions Train and taken on a ride as they pretended to be animals from a circus. Cotton Candy, popcorn, and shakes were also available. The Dairy Science students had a learning display up and also young calves to feed.
From 6 to 7 in the evening, the capella group called Six Appeal Vocal Band, who won the 2012 Harmony Sweepstakes National Championship, performed on the patio. The group performed classic oldies, current chart toppers and catchy original tunes that had people dancing. With the inflatable rides, carnival games, dunk tank, train rides, balloon artist, hair coloring, face painting and a meal, many kids went home exhausted, and more than likely, a few parents too! Fun was had by all!
Thanks NICC and the area community businesses and organizations for putting on this fun back to school Fall Fest!
