Wide Open Spaces North of Decorah
We came across this bridge built in 1911 north of Decorah on Scenic River Road off the beathen path in "Nordic Country" in late June this year. What a perfect ending to a wonderful day as we literally drove off into the sunset after visiting with a wonderful couple, Harry and Barbara Davidson who showed us around their "Prairie Wood Place" on the same road and also went past a rosemaled barn quilt hung on a silo. I highly recommend getting off the beaten path and checking out the rolling hills and scenic valleys of bluff country, north of Decorah toward Bluffton. There is also a campground near the bridge, if you want to stay awhile and enjoy the peaceful, wide open spaces. You can even rent a canoe at the campground and wander down Upper Iowa in style. Make sure to come to the Nordic Fest in Decorah the last weekend in July when you are rested and ready for entertainment. ;)
