On Tuesday October 27, Green Iowa Americorps will begin a series of meetings to learn about and discuss Sustainability.
The meetings will be free and open to the public and should prove to be stimulating. Participants will meet from 6 PM to 7:30 PM every Tuesday and Thursday night. The meetings will be held at the Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center in Decorah. The night will begin with about an hour of video lectures from the Coursera course “The Age of Sustainability.” This course is freely available online through Coursera and is taught by Jeffrey Sachs at Columbia University.
After the lecture, videos are played there will be about thirty minutes of discussion. A guest will be invited every night to lead discussion amongst the group. They will bring expertise in some field of sustainability. The course will take a broad view of sustainability, geographically and thematically. Some topics covered in the course include education, the environment, and gender equality. The meetings will be held into early February, barring holidays and inclement weather. There are no required readings or assignments. However, if you would like, you can sign-up for the course and complete the quizzes and readings (most of which are freely available online).
This course is organized by the Green Iowa Americorps team in Decorah. The team works with non-profits and people with interesting ideas about sustainability in Northeast Iowa. If you have any questions contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
