The McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts has renamed its gallery to The Left Bank Shop and Gallery and it is now open to the public. Located in the First National Bank on Main Street in McGregor, in the midst of scenic Clayton County, the gallery pays tribute to both the mighty Mississippi River and the famous Left Bank of Paris, France. Open seven days a week during the spring and summer months, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., The Left Bank is a must-visit for all traveling through Northeast Iowa.
The Left Bank Shop and Gallery offers a variety of unique pieces, local and regional, for exhibition and retail. Such pieces include handmade crafts, furniture, jewelry, kiln fire glass, ceramics, paintings of different mediums, and many other items that would make for perfect gifts or a decorative piece for your keeping.
Along with the wide selection of artwork for viewers and buyers to enjoy, the Left Bank Shop and Gallery also hosts different classes and workshops. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or just looking to learn a new craft, the gallery has something to offer for everyone. Events include clay workshops, watercolor workshops, and pine needle basketry class, to just name a few.
The Left Bank Shop and Gallery also has special programming for children. “Funday Mondays” provide 30-45 minute free, supervised activities for children aimed between preschool and 4th grade. These fun, creative activities will take place outside the gallery every Monday between June 13 and July 25, with the exception of the 4th of July, from 9-11 a.m.
The McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts will also be partnering with Iowa State University Extension for a kids summer camp, Art a Pooloza. The camp will expose the kids to a plethora of different art activities such as drawing, sculpting, and painting, all loaded with fun.
The McGregor-Marquette Center for the Arts and The Left Bank Shop and Gallery have been able to capture the beauty of Clayton County through the showcased artwork and have generated an appreciation for art for everyone who visits and through the Northeast Iowa area.
