DECORAH-- Northeast Iowa is incredibly fortunate, defying Midwestern stereotypes and proving again and again that art and culture run rich up yonder.
Decorah's home to the visual and performing arts, Arthaus will be hosting its sixth annual Art Auction tonight, Friday May 2nd. Live in or around Decorah? Come join in on supporting the arts at T-Bock's, Upstairs (206 West Water Street). The event will host original artwork by regional artists, as well as host a silent auction to raise money for the ArtHaus Youth Scholarship Fund, helping to bring the performing and visual arts into the lives of children who might not otherwise be able to participate. Since it's inception in Decorah, Arthaus has been doing fantastic work in the community to provide incredible classes, sponsor community-creating and wildly popular events like the Arthaus Poetry Slam, and giving countless children and adults alike a place to explore their hearts, bodies, and minds after the work/school day (or school year) is through. Thanks to Arthaus, plenty of local artists have had an opportunity and outlet to share their work and increase their visibility, through the organization's Emerging Artists' Exhibition, an invaluable experience.
Tonight, Arthaus proves that even when they ask us to give, we always receive incredible art and experiences in return. Doors will open at 6:30pm in the newly refurbished and gorgeous TBocks Upstairs. A cash bar will be in full swing, as well as hors d'oeuvres (prepared in part by both Rubaiyat Restaurant and Trout River Catering). Love live music? Look no further. The evening will begin with an ensemble of ArtHaus students performing, including Clara Kittleson, Aidan Spencer, Lydia Hayes, and friends. Their set will then be followed by the lovely ensemble "Beautiful Mess." The live auction begins at 8pm. Where to snag your ticket? Available before hand at ArtHaus and the Oneota Community Co-op for $15 or $20 at the door. Proceeds go to such a wonderful cause. Why not grab your dancing shoes and come indulge in some of the fantastic art and music our region has to offer?
