Trout Run Trail: A Great Path to Stretch Your Legs This Spring

Spring is here! And now that everything has thawed out, I've been excitedly getting my horses ready for the trails in Decorah. But on the days that I don't take the horses out, I've been looking here and there for a few hiking trails for myself as well. I Googled around a little, as our generation does now, and wrote down on my horsey designed notepad the directions for a couple of the ones that looked the nicest.

It's been beautiful out lately. Trails like these should scream to the world that Iowa isn't just Iowa – it's a beautiful land full of fresh air and kind souls who keep the trails litter free. But here's my favorite, the trail I'll be taking every morning before work... I'm hoping to get it into my schedule, so that I can just take the trail to work myself!

Eleven miles long, and challenging in some parts, Trout Run Trail is somehow still incredibly peaceful and serene. It looks around the entirety of Decorah, but not close enough to be bombarded by the noise of traffic and machinery. The entirety of the trail is paved, so it's perfect for walking, running, or biking!

"Trout Run Trail provides local users and visitors alike with increased recreational opportunities.  The trail has been developed to boost tourism in the area, attract more visitors and increase business in area restaurants, hotels, motels, and retail establishments."

My favorite part was running alongside the trout hatchery. It seemed a bit early, but I even saw some fisherman out and about.

If you'd like to know where the best place to start your loop on the trail is, check out the maps on the site dedicated to the trail! If you'd like some more voices on the subject, I'd suggest you look at AllTrails' reviews on the loop!

Still, let me know if you find a good place to test my shoes, alright?
