A Pizza Farm. That’s what. And let me tell you ladies and gentlemen; it is AH-mazing!
This is one of those times where truly terrific people have started an exciting venture that adds to the (already ridiculous) charm of NEIA! Maren and Tom Beard began Northeast Iowa’s very own pizza farm in the fall of 2017. Starting May 2018, they are open on Fridays and special occasions. Nestled in the Canoe Creek Valley, Luna Valley Farm is gorgeous, quaint and totally ready to help you start your weekends off right.
The premise of a pizza farm, to the largest extent possible, is this: They grow it, they prepare it, and they serve it up. These lovely bits of rural eating have been popping up all around the Midwest, and now you can check it out by heading just northeast of Decorah. It’s a pretty relaxed atmosphere. You can bring your own quilt or lawn chairs in case the picnic tables fill up before you get there. Bring a frisbee to toss around on farm grounds. Or, instead, you can spend time talking to neighbors or watching the sheep, and let the kids join others padding through the grass to pick dandelions while they wait for their supper. (I’m not idealizing here folks. That was definitely the scene last Friday.)
Luna Valley’s pizzas are made in a wonderful wood-fired oven. With a variety of standard (margarita) and seasonal pizzas, you will be sure to find one you love. They even have gluten-free crusts I’m told make the best GF pizzas in the area. (This writer is gluten-full, so to speak, but tends to dine with folks who prefer the former.)
Feel like a NEIA stay-cation? Luna Valley will have glamping available starting June 1. So have your pizza, a local beer or two, and then head off to your dreamy tent for a night of fresh air and relaxation.
