ArtHaus will host its Annual Art Gala & Fundraiser on Friday, April 29 in the Steyer Opera House of the Hotel Winneshiek in downtown Decorah. The event is widely anticipated for its impressive array of original artwork, arts experiences, and packages featuring local businesses to raise funds to sustain the year-round, creative programs of ArtHaus, Decorah's only non-profit arts center. This year's event is sponsored by Pete & Kari Espinosa (Pulpit Rock Brewing Company and Bottle Tree Laundromat), Decorah Bank & Trust, Dragonfly Books, Decorah Area Team of Thrivent Financial - Karen Trewin and Jeff Olinger along with support from media sponsors Inspire(d) Media, KDEC, and Copyland, and others.
Doors open at 6:30pm with a tiered silent auction commencing at that time. Soon after, colorful gourmet tapas designed by ArtHaus and made by chef Tom Skold of the Hotel Winneshiek will be butlered and served in three courses. Live music by John Goodin and Erik Sessions is set for the evening's entertainment with brief programmatic notes shared by emcee Jeni Grouws and ArtHaus' Co-directors, Jenni and Eric Petersen-Brant throughout the evening. A cash bar featuring artist-inspired drinks will be available. This year's event will also offer the opportunity to dabble in hands-on activities through designing and making personalized buttons.
ArtHaus is Your Haus, the theme continued from last year's record-breaking event, reflects ArtHaus' continued mission to bring people together through the power of creative expression, opening its doors to enable our region to be vibrant, resilient, and inviting. "ArtHaus strives to be for, of, and by the people that it serves," says ArtHaus Co-director, Jenni Petersen-Brant. "We actively listen to our community and respond to the ways they want to tap into their creativity. In the last year, we've expanding programming to offer our first community exhibition, continued with Cringe Night storytelling events, and recently launched open studio hours to make our visual art studio, the community's visual art studio. We were also recently recognized by the Iowa After School Alliance with the 2016 After School Innovator Award and received a McElroy Trust Challenge Grant for our work with teens. The Gala's not only an opportunity to financial support what ArtHaus does, it's also a chance to celebrate the strong role the arts play in our community."
Guests will find an impressive silent auction lineup for bidding from 6:30-9pm, featuring pottery, jewelry, woodcuts, paintings, drawings, fiber work, glass, and much more, created and donated by outstanding local and regional artists. Auction items this year will also include an array of arts experiences and unique Decorah and regional activities from entities such as the Center Stage Series, Decorah Bicycles, and the Commonweal Theater.
Tickets for the Gala are $25 in advance, available at ArtHaus and the Oneota Community Co-op, or $30 at the door. Tickets can also be purchased online. Proceeds support the year-round creative programming of ArtHaus including its youth and adult educational classes, cultural events, gallery exhibitions and need-based scholarship fund.
